Our Products
Tau’s products will center on modulating the calcium ion dependent mechanisms critical to cell proliferation. Calcium entry into cells at key points in the cell cycle is essential for proliferation and is the final common event for all growth factors signaling in tumor cells. The new generation of targeted therapies, such as Gleevec, Tarceva, and Sutent, inhibit growth factor signaling, but many tumors develop resistance by finding alternative growth factor pathways. Blocking T channels will be compatible with and could even potentiate the activity of these targeted therapeutics and appears to avoid the resistance common to virtually all oncology therapies. The benefits of T channel therapy is that it simply halts the growth of the cancer cells and leaves the healthy cells alone. These small molecule daily pills will be used in combination with Tau’s diagnostic assays as a personalized maintenance therapy and provide significant efficacy in controlling cancer growth and improve quality of life.
Tau's Pipeline: Market Leader in T-Cell Therapeutics
Tau’s leading drug candidate is a calcium T-channel blocker with a broad-spectrum of anti-cancer tumor potential. Tau plans to reposition this drug and enter the clinic in 2009 with a Phase IIa trial in pancreatic cancer. Tau has an additional product opportunity – the repositioning of a second calcium T channel product. This drug is in early preclinical testing, and offers an excellent opportunity to be repositioned.
Tau’s longer term strategy involves building a platform company for cancer and other proliferative diseases. The company has patented two libraries of small molecule compounds and synthesized and tested over 400 compounds. Tau has undertaken the pre-clinical evaluation of over 100 of these compounds and has identified several viable lead compounds for development. Tau’s proprietary lead compound, TTL 1177, is in late pre-clinical tests and is within 12-18 months of filing with the FDA for an IND.
