Formerly Associate Professor, Pathology and Director of Clinical Immunology, Department of Pathology, University of Virginia Medical Center. Has over 34 peer reviewed publications and six patents. MD, University of Connecticut; Former Research Fellow at UCSD, Sloan Kettering and Washington University.


Timothy McDonald PhDTimothy Macdonald, PhD

Founder and Vice President, Drug Discovery

Professor of Chemistry and Pharmacology and past Chairman of Chemistry, University of Virginia. Dr. Macdonald has over 225 publications and 45 pending and issued patents and is a founding scientist of Adenosine Therapeutics LLC (Clinical Data: CLDA), AlGlutamine LLC, and Catena Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Macdonald has shepherded four of his own compounds from the bench to the clinic and helped to oversee the development of another dozen drugs as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Macdonald has been awarded numerous honors, including twice recognized as the “Inventor of the Year” by the University of Virginia. He has served as a Senior Scientific Advisor or SAB member to numerous publicly traded companies. PhD. Columbia University, NIH post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University.


Kurt Woerpel, MS/CPA

Chief Financial Officer

Entrepreneurial experience including seventeen years at Carden Jennings Publishing, ten years at ScholarOne (now a division of Thomson Reuters) and three years at Potomac Supply Corporation. Public accounting experience with two years at Coopers & Lybrand in Boston and one year with Deloitte & Touche in Richmond. MS in Accounting and BS in Commerce both from UVa's McIntire School of Commerce. Licensed CPA in Virginia since 1992.


Anne Heldreth

Director of Operations

Legal, research and administrative experience both as an attorney and volunteer. Associate at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton (NYC) and Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Cardamone of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The Cornell Law School, JD 1987, and St. John’s College (Annapolis), BA 1983.


Bethany Mahla, BA

Research, analytical and administrative experience, including three years at Vanderbilt University’s Office of International Advancement and summer legal assistant at Vinson & Elkins LLP Shanghai. 2009 honors graduate of Vanderbilt University with BAs in East Asian Studies and Communication Studies.
